ATTENDANCE POLICY, TARDIES, AND TRUANCEE REFERRALS

Attendance is key to student success. Parents, by law, are accountable for their child’s attendance. Student must be present 90% of the year to be promoted. Please make sure your child arrives to school between 7:10 and 7:40. Tardies are issued to students arriving after 7:40AM. If children arrive after 9AM, they are marked absent for the entire school day but are still encouraged to come, if possible. For an excused absence, please submit proper documentation to Jane.Harrell@comalisd.org within 2 days of the child’s return to school.

Please refer to your online Student Handbook for attendance policy and truancy referral information.

Safety Response Protocol

Through out the year, we are required to perform drills for different potential events that could take place on or around campus. Practice makes perfect and doing these drills, along with educating our students about their importance is necessary. You can read the handout below and educate yourself and your child on the situations, expectations and procedures for the drills we will hold at Kinder Ranch.

Pleaser refer to the Safety Protocol Handout for more information.

Drop-off and Pick-up From the Ranch

Getting our Cowboys to and from school safely is very important. Kinder Ranch's drop-off and pick-up procedures are posted below. Review these procedures and make sure you are clear on what the expectations are in getting the kids in and out of school on a daily basis.

School starts at 7:35 AM. We will close and lock the access doors to the main hallway at this time. Students arriving after that will have to get a tardy slip from the office. There will be no tardies the first week of school as we know getting used to timing and traffic flow is necessary. Tardies will be given starting Aug. 26th, so plan accordingly to ensure your student is in the building by 7:35 AM. We understand that situations occur, but students with excessive tardies will be reported to Mrs. De La Garza. Any students that are tardy after the first week will need to be escorted by a parent or guardian in the building as the doors are locked and students do not have a way in the building due to safety. Getting to school on time and being engaged in instruction when the day starts teaches our students responsibility and good work ethic.

When picking up your Cowboy(s) from school, please follow the traffic flow for car pick-up that is explained in the attachment below. Review these procedures. Car tags must be visible when picking up in the car line. Students walking and riding bikes home from school will be monitored across the crosswalk on school property and from there, students are responsible for getting home once they are off school property.

(THERE WILL BE NO WALK-UPS AFTERSCHOOL FOR DISMISSAL) There will be no parking/parent walk- ups at the end of the parking lot. That poses a safety concern especially when buses are leaving the parking lot and cars are driving by.

Thank you in advance for your support and patience with us during beginning of year dismissal. It will take a little more time as we get in our groove, but that is nothing compared to the safety of our students and staff.

Food being brought into our campus must comply with these district guidelines below:

● Non-food items are highly encouraged, please see the following list for ideas: Stickers, Pencils, Mini Notepads, Colorful Erasers, Bookmarks, Bubbles, Bouncy Balls, and Party Favors.

● Guardians must provide at least 24-hour notice to the teacher and office by sending a note with the student or calling the school if they are bringing food for holiday celebrations.

● Prior to bringing snacks to the class, please inform the teacher and admin if your snacks contain the following: Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Milk, Eggs, Wheat, Soy, Shellfish, or Fish. This will allow proper time to notify parents of students with food allergies. Some campuses may exclude nuts or other allergens based on student allergies.

● Per Health Department regulations, any food items MUST be store-bought with labels that provide an allergen statement.

● In an effort to make sure students with food allergies are inclusive in birthday celebrations, the 24- hour notice will be strictly enforced. If no prior notice is given, holiday treats will not be allowed until the following day.

● Celebration treats will be distributed in the last 30 minutes of the day.

Please note, birthday treats MUST BE DELIVERED to the office between 7:35-9:00 am on the day you wish to have them shared with your child's class. If they are delivered after, they will be served the following day. Thank you in advance for adhering to our campus delivery expectations.
